Philips lights up, and embellishes, Guanajuato

The project, in addition to highlighting the beauty of the colonial city through a change in urban lighting, provide other tangible benefits, such as reducing energy consumption for the town and the increase in security for the population.
The joint plan was signed by Paulo Simas de Abreu, director of Philips Mexicana, and Eduardo Romero Hicks, mayor of the city of Guanajuato, who noted that last year was invested nearly 5 billion pesos in lighting, but there were places where no noted the change, "the renewal of the lighting system throughout the city of Guanajuato will have an immediate impact in terms of public safety because it will allow the rescue of spaces for families in the town and encourage social interaction. We hope the project will also be extended to the 13 mining towns adjacent to the city. "
In turn, Paulo Simas said that the lighting system to be implemented in Guanajuato only have it in the world cities like Paris, Lyon and Toledo, and monuments as the Parthenon, the Eiffel Tower and the Pyramids of Egypt. "This plan is the first to be carried out in Latin America and its objective is to achieve energy savings, under the pressure of the effects of global warming and the movements of financial markets worldwide."
He noted that the city of Guanajuato may achieve savings on electricity more than 30 percent.
The Dutch company, which will provide no-cost knowledge of specialized personnel (landscape architects, engineers, urban planners and other experts), plays well with its mission to integrate technology with sustainability and environmental quality with social welfare.
In the lighting project will be implemented in scenic sites emblematic of Guanajuato, as the underground street and some tourist attractions in the Historic Center, this first part should be accomplished before the start in the Cervantino Festival this October 2008, while the total program contemplates its completion in 36 months.
